Diving into an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered numerous engaging indie games. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer features a hero that is truly a dung attempting to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: you only need a single jump button. In one hundred fifty stages, encounter boss fights and visit a shop to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your actions precisely, as a mistake forces beginning again. Bounce on floating orbs to launch the poop to new heights, traverse fragile ledges, and interact with triggers to open new areas. Earn currency and use them on challenging levels as things gets crazy.

In terms of design, the game shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing music score. Its minimalist graphics of shifting basic polygons could recall gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, video games frequently incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. And of course, this theme is present extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, like taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on Steam on November 19.
